Background
DISCUSSION REGARDING PUBLIC SAFETY BOARD
By: Givonna Reed Kone, Human Resources Manager
Per the City Code, the primary objective of the Public Safety Board is to review administrative
and/or operational matters relative to the public safety and to advise the City Council of policy
matters relevant to the public safety functions in Ramsey.
Staff was recently directed by members of the Personnel Committee to add the Public Safety
Board to a future agenda. Committee members expressed an interest in discussing the
effectiveness of — and the need for the Public Safety Board. The impetus for this discussion is
the infrequency with which the Public Safety Board meets. Over the last nine years the Public
Safety Board has met only five times. Typically, boards and commissions meet once monthly.
Staff has invited the Fire Chief, the Police Chief and current members of the. Public Safety Board
to attend the Personnel Committee meeting on Nov 25, 2008. The current Board members are
Tom Anderson, Al Pearson and Suzanne Bollman. In addition to the three resident members, the
Public Safety Board includes the following ex- officio members: Mayor Gamec, Council
Member Dehen, Chief Kapler, Chief Way and one representative each from the fire and police
departments.
Personnel Committee Recommendation
Based upon discussion.
Attachment: City Code, Section 2.03.06, Subd 3
Reviewed By:
PC 11 - 25 - 08
, City Administrator
G: Administration f lumanResources \Commissionspublic Safety Board\20081discussion— should we d PSH.docx
PC CASE# 5
