<br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he is concerned that this may create a larger problem for people <br />who are already having financial problems. He stated that he understands why the City would <br />charge interest, but questions the penalty. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way stated that the penalty would be whatever fee or fine there would be for the <br />violation. He stated that the City has always worked with people to help them get the work done, <br />for example, granting extensions when necessary. He stated that the City will definitely work <br />with people, if they are having financial difficulties, to help clean up the property. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he thinks although there may be financial hardships, there are <br />still consequences for actions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he thinks there have been instances lately, where people have <br />lost their lake place and have to bring all their stuff home. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way stated that this would be considered temporary and the City will work with <br />them. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Miller stated that typically the complaints come after the stuff <br />has been there for quite a while. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked who is doing the complaining. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way stated that it is usually the neighbor. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that a few years ago there were many instances where realtors had been the <br />ones coming in and complaining. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that in Anoka there is someone who goes around and checks <br />properties and gives a report to the police. He stated that Princeton has their officers patrol <br />sections of the community, as part oftheir job. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated that there may be a new direction on these issues after the new <br />Council comes in. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Miller stated that she was planning on introducing and <br />adopting this before year-end. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated that he was just concerned about continuity. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Miller noted that Police Chief Way also included information <br />in the packet on costs incurred, so far this year, for abatements. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig asked if the City was building itself into a box because the City is carrying <br />$62,811.4 7 in abatement costs.
