"1

GREEN & OPEN SPACE
SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS

The community should contain an ample supply of open space in the form of
squares, greens and parks whose frequent use is encouraged through placement
and design.

Each community or cluster of communities should have a well G:lefined edge,
such as agricultural greenbelts or wildlife corridors, permanently protected from
development.

Wherever possible, the natural terrain, drainage, and vegetation of the
communityshould be preserved, with superior examples contained within parks
or greenways.

The community design should conserve resources. This should begin with an
inventory of key natural features.

Designate major east west roadways as "parkways" which would include off-
street, multi-use trails and sidewalks and on-street commuter bike lanes and pull-
in bays.

The EPB will serve as on going monitor of the City's green space and open
space.

Pursue open..space zoning, conservation easements, transfer of development
rights and property acquisition as per the existing Comprehensive Plan.

Develop a Greenway Map that includes natural resources such as wetlands, tree
canopy, natural vegetation, and unique wildlife habitat. It also should include
some lands that may not be environmentally unique but instead simply create a
link between other open space areas such as parks or wetlands.

Pursue Greenways zoning using tools such as park dedication, conservation
easements, or cluster development to protect land within the greenways during
the subdivision process
