<br />Councilmember Look asked if the same questions were asked of each candidate. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated that this is true. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen asked if there was any benefit in pre-screening for candidates that are not <br />qualified, rather than interviewing everyone. He suggested that perhaps the prescreening could <br />happen at a Work Session. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated that if you screen candidates, you have to set specific criteria. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that they use something like this for staff hiring. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated that he did not think people would apply if there were too many <br />hoops they have to jump through. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich asked how many applicants the City has. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that she thinks there are between five and eight new <br />applicants, in addition to the incumbents. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated that these are political appointments and are not bound by <br />employment practices. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGlone stated that he would like to keep it simple and not build a matrix. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen asked if there would be benefit to having a threshold num~er that would <br />trip a prescreening process, for example, if there were 20 applicants, the City would only <br />interview 10 people. <br /> <br />Couhcilmember Look suggested that if there are more than five applicants for each position it <br />would trigger a pre screening process. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that some people just want to serve and they do not know in what <br />capacity. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson asked if the plan was for the Council to serve as the <br />Interview Panel and consult the Chair and Vice-Chair if they wanted to. <br /> <br />Councilmember Look asked why the Chair and Vice-Chair could not be present at the meeting <br />for the interviews. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated that they could be invited to sit in and give opinions, but not <br />vote. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey asked how long it would take to get these changes implemented. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session /January 6, 2009 <br />Page 8 of 16 <br />
