-'

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that Ace Solid Waste had attended the event the
prior year and that the City had also given out reusable shopping bags, which people really
seemed to like. He stated that the one thing he noticed that they did not have available was
refreshments and agreed that item would need to be added to the expo. He advised that they may
be limited in their options because of the space constraints.

The Board discussed possible setup options and methods to draw people inside if they do hold
outdoor actiVities as well. The date for the expo is Saturday, April 25th.

Board Member Bentz questioned if the City would be distributing anything to the students at
Twin Lakes, as many Ramsey children attend that school.

Councilmember McGlone commented that they could publish something in the Star as many
residents also get that paper.

Board Member Bentz confirmed that he would volunteer to see what the process would be for
sending a flyer home with students at Twin Lakes School.

Board Member Freeburg stated that he would contact the University of Minnesota to see if they
would have anything to exhibit.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that he would be trying to get the bee exhibit back
again this year but was unsure if that vendor would be interested because of the poor turn out at
the prior year's event.

Acting Chairperson Max stated that he knew a man who could conduct a native plantings
presentation.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson commented that they could almost repeat the presentations
from the prior year, as there was such low turnout and they were valuable topics.

Ex-Officio Member McDilda stated that there is a fair amount of effort behind the planning of
the items involved in the expo and encouraged interested members to get involved but to
concentrate on only one item. He thought it was better to do one item well than to get into too
many things and not put the right amount of effort into them.

Acting Chairperson Max suggested trying to contact the DNR to possibly have Smokey the Bear
attend the expo.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that he had tried to do something similar to that in
the past and it did not work out, but stated that he would be interested in trying that again.

Board Member Bentz suggested gray water as a topic for a speaker.

Councilmember McGlone suggested contacting the RDF facility for the event. He advised that
for every 13 trailers that reaches the building, only one is sent to the landfill and the remaining
material is burned for energy.

Environmental Policy Board / January 5, 2009
Page 7 of9
