CASE # \ '-i

REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff

'Background:

The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 and discussed the following five
cases:

CITIZEN INPUT

There was none.

APPROVE AGENDA

Motion to approve the agenda as submitted.

Case #1:

Consider Request to Provide Birch Hill Lodges with Screening from TH 47

Background:

At the request of a resident staff met at the townhome development in the area of Sunwood Drive
and Cobalt Street to discuss the traffic impact from TH47 and is requesting some sort of sound
mitigation and reduction in light impacts from northbound vehicles.

It was the consensus of the Committee discussion that the expenditure of public funds on private
property would not be a wise precedent. In addition a request of this nature should more
appropriately come from the Homeowner's Association which owns the property which would
be involved and not from an individual resident.

Motion to recommend that the City Council deny the request to provide Birch Hill Lodges with
screening from TH 47.

Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

Case #2

Consider Drainage Resolutions for Gorham's Sandy Acres

A resident at 15130 Waco Street NW contacted the engineering department last summer
requesting assistance with localized flooding on his property; at times affecting his existing
garage.

The property owner's garage was constructed in a location that altered the existing drainage
patterns of the area and damns the water at a low point located in his back yard. Runoff is not
able to find an overland path and flow through to Xkimo Street. Even if water were able to flow
to Xkimo Street, as. previously existed, there is a low point in the road surface along that
roadway that would push the runoff problem onto another resident
