CASE # 4

D,ECLARE PEA ROCK EXCESS INVENTORY
By: Grant Riemer PW Street Supervisor

Background:

In past years pea rock was the used during our street improvement projects as a seal coat
material. Starting with the 2008 season we changed our specification to require crushed granite
on our seal coat projects; because of its durability and improved adhesion properties. We
currently have about 300*400 yards of excess pea rock at the PW facility. The space hoc.cupies
currently could be put to better use storing our granite chip pile. One thought is to offer it to
residentsJor pick up, sit11ilar to our program for excess wood chips. It \vould have some limited
value for homeowners for use in small muddy spots in driveways or perhaps as a landscaping
material.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that the Committee recommend announcing in the Ramsey Resident the
availability of pea rock for pick up at the PW facility for Ramsey residents

Action:

Motion to recommend publication of article in Ramsey Resident

Reviewed By:
Director of Public Warks/Principal City Engineer
City Engineer
Public Works Street Supervisor

PW:. 08/19/09
