Lee Scarborough, 15760 Azurite Court stated she is a stay at home mom and there are not trucks
coming and going all day long. The applicant leaves in the morning and returns in the evening.
We don't see anything from our back yard or from the front or street. He keeps it immaculate.

Chairperson Van Scoy asked if the issues with the use of the property have been addressed; the
illegal bum and dumping.

Curt Kriens, 15740 Azurite Court, the applicant stated there was some burning of his siding and
that was what the fire department was concerned with, not the burning of the stumps. I buried
some concrete in the back to stabilize the ground and both issues have been resolved.

Chairperson Van Scoy asked about the hours of operation.

Mr. Kriens stated he would like to see the hours adjusted to 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to allow for
drive time to job sites that are further away.

Commissioner Rogers asked how many employees he has and Mr. Kriens responded that he
works with subcontractors.

Chairperson Van Scoy stated it seems that the major issue is the outside storage. He had driven
by and it is very well screened as others have said.

Mr. Kriens stated he has cleaned up a lot of the outside storage since Associate Planner Gladhill
had been out. In the winter months most of the equipment would be stored inside. He does have
miscellaneous brick stored outside. He stated he could do some more cleaning up, but doesn't
want to lose all his outside storage. .

Planning Manager Miller stated the issue is that this is a residential district and a full scale
business is being operated out of the home. The current neighbors might not have any issues,
however, they may move and the new neighbors may have an issue so we have to take into
account that there is an impact on the neighborhood.

Mr. Kriens stated he has been doing this business for eighteen years and because one person
complains, here we are.

Associate Planner Gladhill stated the Fire Department and Police Department responded to an
illegal bum and it is not because of neighborhood complaints that brought this to the City's
attention.

Commissioner Van Scoy clarified it was a complaint generated by the City. Associate Planner
Gladhill stated yes, it was an illegal bum that initiated the complaint.

Commissioner VanScoy stated the City is not going out looking for these issues, however, when
they come to the attention of the City they have to be addressed.

Commissioner Brauer asked the applicant what is done onsite that makes this a home occupation.

Planning CommissionlNovember 5, 2009
Page 3 of7
