r
LRRWMO Meeting Minutes
Dec. 13, 1989
Page 5
• oversight board with the probable recommendation being that
BWSR be the oversight board, whatever the recommendation,
Pearson indicated that there will definitely be an oversight
agency. The general opinion is that most don't want the
Metro Council to get involved. The WMO's will have to make a
report each year to prove their existence and show that they
are actually doing something.
Pearson went on to report that discussions in the task force
will entail what various ordinances are needed for water
quality, and WMO's will have to report whether various cities
have enacted the ordinances. There will be a great deal of
stress on water quality. It is reportedly the feeling of the
task force that many WMO's are not doing their job. The WMO
will be an ongoing organization
BWSR Board information dated Sept. 20, 1989, was reviewed,
listing WMO problems, goals, and recommendations. Pearson
felt that it was probable that the task force would follow
BWBR's recommendations.
Members decided to await the legislative task force's report
before considering the issue further. Pearson indicated that
this WMO's response to the report would be most effective
with our legislators at a later date. He further predicted
• that there definitely will be more forthcoming legislation on
ground water. Skallman reported that there is a general
attitude that feels the LRRWMO isn't doing anything. The
letter from the BWSR Board indicating that our Water Manage-
ment Plan hasn't been submitted won't help. However, he felt
that as along as this body continues as it is, there
shouldn't be any problem acknowledging our actions.
MISCELLANEOUS
Weaver reported that the City of Anoka is in the process of
adopting an ordinance which will help to regulate traffic on
the Rum River within the corporate limits of Anoka. Said
ordinance will reportedly address slow /no wake restrictions.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Schrantz, seconded by Weaver, to ADJOURN
THE MEETING.
4 ayes - 0 nayes. Motion carried.
Time of adjournment: 10:30 a.m.
Respectfully su bmitted, /
• ! /aa. -tom/ ' /l , .t.'/
Mava Mikkonen, Recording Secretary
