LRRWMO Meeting Minutes
November 28, 1990
Page 3
CONSIDERATION OF COMMUNICATIONS
Raatikka reported receiving an October 11, 1990, letter from
Jan Felteisek, Project Coordinator for the Minnesota Depart-
ment of Natural Resources (DNR), indicating a telephone
number is available should anyone require information
relative to ground water resources sensitive to
contamination.
Raatikka reported the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil
Resources (BWSR) is requesting a meeting with the LRRWMO to
review and clarify the Water Management Plan in order to
finalize approval. Members and Skallman agreed to meet with
BWSR officials December 6, 1990, at 9:00 a.m. in their St.
Paul office.
Raatikka noted the November 16, 1990, letter received from
Jim Birkholz, Executive Director of the Minnesota Board of
Water and Soil Resources, in response to the November 1,
1990, LRRWMO letter expressing concern in not receiving
timely information in order to properly review the Coon
Rapids mall located at the junction of Highway 10 and Round
Lake Boulevard prior to its completion. Upon review of Mr.
Birkholz's letter, Raatikka summarized the letter indicates
the DNR says they do not have the legal responsibility to
respond to WMO's. They have merely set a policy of doing so.
Members agreed this matter should be discussed with BWSR at
the upcoming December 6 meeting. In the mean time, Raatikka
agreed to contact Tom Hovey, DNR, to see if he plans to
follow up on actions outlined during the October 17, 1990,
LRRWMO meeting, which he attended.
Raatikka indicated according to the new procedure, starting
immediately, a report from each member city should be
received by this board on any project proposed or pending
within each community.
Jankowski recommended, and members concurred, an ongoing item
be added to the agenda entitled "Pending Projects ".
Weaver indicated the copy of the current law, as provided by
Mr. Birkholz, Subdivision 9, Duties, does indeed indicate
they have a responsibility to provide WMO's with pertinent
project review information.
OLD BUSINESS None.
