Proposed Improvements - Alternative A - Gravel &~rface

Alternative A would upgrade the roadway by creating, adequate ditch sections on both sides of
157th Avenue resulting in a cross section consistent with the one illustrated in Figure A. Material
obtained from creating ditches would be used to elevate the roadway. Culverts would be
installed under all driveways. Altlaough the topography is very flat, the ditch system could be
connected to the roadside ditch system of Variotite Street and Armstrong Boulevard. on the east'
and west ends. Topsoil salvaged from the ditch areas would be used to restore the disturbed
areas outside the roadway. Disturbed areas would be seeded and provided with adequate erosion
control until turf is established.

Following construction, an application of calcium chloride for dust control would be applied
annually in the spring or early summer. T he road would b e r egraded approximately monthiy.
between April and October. Al%r five years tow inches of Class-5 would be added to the
roadway.

Proposed £mprovements - Alternative B - Paved Surface

Similar improvements to these described in Alternative A above Would. be made to improve
drainage. In addition the roadway would be surfaced with two inched of Class 5 as illustrated in
Figure B. Turf restoration and erosion control would be provided as described in'Alternative A.
Following construction, a sealcoating would be applied after five years.

I. Section I6

Existing Conditions

This horseshoe shaped configuration of street include 163ra Lane, Sapphire Street and 164th
Avenue between Variolite Street and Quartz Street in Section 16. The combined length of these-
streets are 0.5 miles. The surfaces are a combination of sand and gavel with widths that vary
between 25 feet to 30 feet wide within a 66-foot right-of-way. Th_is road system services
single family homes and two or three vacant lots which may be buildable.

Wetland occupies the center of the horseshoe formed by these streets, tn some areas the existing
roadside ditches are well established, while in others the ditch system is poorly developed-to non-
existent'.~ The existing road on 164m does not appear to be centered in the fight-of-way, but rather
appears, shifted to the north.
