Case #3: Environmental Expo and EPB Booth Discussion
Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report and reviewed the exhibitors that
have been confirmed to date and those that have declined and/or have not responded to the
invitation.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he was contacted by an individual who
participated in the event two years ago and was interested in participating again. The topic
would be Tupperware. He stated that two years ago he granted her a booth because it had been
agreed upon that the focus would have to be on the waste reduction benefits of reusable food
storage containers compared to disposable baggies.
Board Member Bentz stated that he did receive some comments/questions concerning the
Tupperware booth after that expo event, mainly people questioning what Tupperware was doing
at an environmental expo.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson distributed a handout that he received from this individual
highlighting some of the environmental benefits of reusable food storage containers.
Discussion ensued amongst the Board and ultimately, the consensus was that as long as these
environmental benefits were highlighted at their booth, than it seemed appropriate to include
them.
Board Member Hassett inquired if anyone from the Links at Northfork had been invited to talk
about their grounds-keeping efforts.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he has four speakers lined up:
1. Connexus Energy-Energy Efficiency with a Commonsense Approach
2. S & BGeothermal-Geothermal Systems and Their Benefits
3. Anderson Irrigation-Water Conservation through Smart Irrigation Practices
4. Audubon Center of the Northwoods-Wildlife Talk
Chairperson Max stated that he contacted Val Cervenka, Forest Entomologist with the DNR,
about speaking at the expo on Emerald Ash Borer and that she was willing to do so.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that while he thinks a talk on EAB might really
amact people because it has been in the news so much recently, he has already spoken with these
others about speaking at the event. However, Audubon Center of the Northwoods had offered to
do a talk if we were interested because they would be here for the entire event and there would
not be any additional cost. So, if the Board wanted to include the EAB talk, than he would likely
replace the Audubon Center presentation with the EAB topic.
After some discussion, the Board agreed that the EAB talk should be included. Chairperson Max
was to follow up with Val Cervenka and than update Environmental Coordinator Anderson later
in the week.
The Board discussed their booth for the expo event. The focus would be on invasive species.
Environmental Policy Board / Apri15, 2010
Page 3 of 5
