The airport's operational
capacity will be more than adequate to meet future
demand. The number of based aircraft at the airport is
projected to increase from 235 in 1988 to 297 by 2008.
Future development at the airport will concentrate
primarily on providing additional landside facilities and
a nondirectional beacon (NDB), which provides a
nonprecision approach to the airport. Other resources
should be focused on maintaining existing airside and
landside facilities. Proximity to St. Paul Downtown and
Minneapolis-St. Paul International make it difficult to
upgrade this facility to precision approach capability.
The airport's existing land envelope encompasses 204 acres. If demand increases beyond projected
levels as other system airports become more congested,
there is property adjacent to the airport; however, this
undeveloped property is not zoned for airport use.
-17-
METROPOLITAN COONCIL
SowM1 Sr.
~_
:---
-----
t 9t
I
I
I ~~
y,y I
~S ~ \
3
~~~ ~ \\~ ~
^J ,
--- ~\,
i
n ~ `~v`
~n\
~~
~ --,
~,
~~4 ,a
SOUTH ST.
