2.0 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS
This section of the report highlights the findings and signifi-
cant recommendations. It also provides a quick synopsis,
however, the reader is referred to proper sections for details of
the study.
1) Property was purchased in Ramsey Township by the group of
businessmen calling themselves the Anoka Industrial Park
Corporation in 1971.
An airport was laid out in 1972. It is the present site
with little or no improvement since the original construc-
tion. The airport consists of a soft surface main and
crosswind runway, with 2500 feet and 2365 feet runway,
respectively.
2) The Dickinson Bus Company was the first business to use and
promote the airport along with Holley Industries (now Mate
Tool & Die), Dr. M.J. Mylrea, Howe Fertilizer and United
Power Association.
3) The airport from its inception has been licensed as a pri-
vate airport with the State of Minnesota. It presently has
a FBO who is providing flight school along with fuel
service.
4) The publicly owned airports at Flying Cloud, Crystal, Anoka
County, Airlake Industrial (acquired by MAC - 1981), Lake
Elmo, South St. Paul, St. Paul Downtown, and Minneapolis -
St. Paul International accomodate over 908 of all based
aircraft and aircraft operations within the metro region.
The remainder are served by the privately owned fields at
Gateway North, Forest Lake, Benson, and Northport.
5) The current metropolitan system plan acknowledges the role
of the privately owned airports within the region and
assumes the continued operation of Gateway North as well as
Forest Lake, Northport and Benson Airport. As private faci-
lities, however, no future publicly funded improvements have
been planned at the regional level.
6) Based aircraft currently at Gateway are registered to pilots
in the communities of Anoka, Ramsey, Wyoming, Champlin,
Zimmerman, and Elk River.
7) Gateway North Industrial is not currently in the NPIAS due
to its private ownership and lack of designated role as a
publicly owned facility in regional and state system plans.
If the course of public ownership is followed, the inclusion
of Gateway into the NPIAS should be vigorously pursued.
2 -1
