Major components of the plan are transient and based air-
craft ramps, an arrival/departure building, multi -unit
hangars, individual hangars, a future maintenance
hangar/FB0 facility, access and road parking.
The proposed building area accomodates forecast space re-
quirements and provides adequate land area for expansion to
meet needs in excess of forecast demand or beyond the 20
year planning period.
Vehicular access to the new building area will utilize
143rd Ave N.W. off of Co. Road 56. A perimeter access road
is illustrated on the building area plan. The perimeter
road should be developed only as activity warrants to
provide separate vehicular access to hangars minimizing
vehicular/aircraft conflicts on the ramp and hangar aprons.
All existing buildings being used by the AVTI and all air-
craft hangars are proposed to be relocated to allow orderly
future development. One of the existing structures is
being used as an arrival/departure facility. It may be
desireable to relocate this structure to the new
arrival/departure building location. The remaining struc-
tures being used by the AVTI can be relocated off of the
flight line thereby allowing expansion space for flight
line activities. The existing hangars are portable and can
be readily relocated and nested in the multi -unit hangar
area.
Since airport land }s limited, it is recommended that the
City emphasize multi -unit storage rather than individual
hangar units. It provides a much more efficient use of
airport land, provides for a greater revenue base, and
ultimately, is less expensive to maintain.
9.4. Approach Plans/Profiles - Sheet 4
This drawing illustrates in plan view and in profile, the
land areas and approach surfaces associated with the recom-
mended runway. Both Runways 16 and 34 are planned non -
precision instrument runways. The approach surfaces are
500' wide at the base and extend outward 10,000' from the
end of the primary surface to a width of 3500'.
The sheet notes obstructions and also elevations of other
objects in the approach areas. The obstruction schedule
indicates the recommended disposition of all obstructions
in each approach. All obstructions and structures in each
approach are planned to be removed, relocated, or buried.
9-2
