Mr. Fisher stated they have not budgeted <br />for initial grading. <br />Councilmember Wise expressed concern that if we have corporations who put their logos <br />on bricks, etc. you have an advertisement versus a memorial. <br />Mr. Fisher stated they have not given that much thought yet -the purpose is to allow a <br />company to put their logo on if they want to spend that amount of money. He added that <br />the concept is memorial. <br />Councilmember Wise stated he is also concerned about what someone might think is in <br />good taste might not necessarily be in good taste. <br />Councilmember Dehen stated he is not a "big memorial person". Many times people <br />perpetuate the tragedy; however, this seems to be more of a memorial for everybody -not <br />a specific designation. He liked that it's non-specific but stated he has some concerns. <br />He saw East Meandering Commons Park as a natural pazk and he did not want a bunch of <br />memorials - he wanted it keep it simple. He added the statue is a nice feature. <br />Mr. Fisher responded that the plan is for three things -three sizes of bricks, the five- <br />pointed star and the statue. <br />Ms. Thompson added that the center of the staz is a sundial, which can be used as a <br />learning tool. <br />Councilmember Look stated he has some of the same concerns as have been mentioned - <br />such as who can purchase a brick/paver or what can be put on the bricks. <br />Mr. Fisher didn't think they could not allow someone to purchase a brick, however, they <br />could look into phrases to choose from. <br />Councilmember Look suggested that if it's a governmental project, we cannot <br />discriminate but if it's a private project, you can. <br />Ms. Thompson stated that the Rotary is the world's lazgest service organization. <br />Councilmember Look stated that maybe they could lease this land and that may eliminate <br />the concern of discrimination. <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated we would also have to bid out the lease so there is equal <br />access to that. <br />Councilmember Look suggested maybe we give a land transfer. <br />Councilmember McGlone stated to the Rotary representatives that he appreciates all they <br />do but he is completely against this.
