No. 08-07, §I, 1-11-2008; Ord No. OS-IS, §2, 8-12-2008) <br />Sec. 117-484. -Required; exetnptions. <br />(a) All permanent signs shall obtain a permit prior to installation. This permit is reviewed by the zoning administrator and the <br />building official, or their assigns, for conformance with the regulations described herein. Temoorarv sins shall obtain a permit <br />in accordance with Sec. 117-465 of this Section. <br />(b) Exemptions. The exemptions permitted by this section shall apply only to the requirement of a permit and fee and shall not <br />be constmed as relieving the installer of the sign, or the owner of the property upon which the sign is located, from conforming <br />with the other provisions of this division. <br />_(~ .,T <br />(2) A window sign not exceeding 30 percent of the window azea.~ <br />(3) Holiday decorations temporarily displayed on traditionally accepted civic, patriotic, or religious holidays. <br />(4) On-premises address or nameplate identification signs having a sign area of four square feet or less. <br />(5) Memorial plaques or tablets, grave markers, statutory, or other remembrances of persons or events that are <br />noncommercial in nature. <br />(6) Interior signs which are fully located within the interior of any building orstadium, or within an enclosed lobby or <br />court of any building, or in the lobby or entrance of any theater which are intended solely for information relating to the <br />interior operation of [he building in which they are located. <br />(7) Pennants. <br />(8) Noncommercial speech signs, as exempted in the Minnesota Statutes. <br />(Cod¢ 1978, §§ 9.1214, 9.13.16; Ord. No. 08-07, § 1, 2-72-1008; Ord No. OS-25, § 2, 8-71-1008) <br />Sec. 117-519. -Business type districts. <br />(a) Business use signs. <br />(1) Wall, canopy or marquee sign. Total sign area may not exceed 15 percent of the front building facade. Businesses <br />in multitenant buildings shall be allowed the proportionate share of the total wall sign azea. The tdtal wall signage <br />permitted may be distributed on any other building facade. Sign height shall not exceed the top of the parapet wall or, if <br />no parapet wall, sign height shall not exceed the height of the eaves. A wall, canopy or mazquee sign may be located on <br />[he outermost wall of any principal building but shall not project more than 16 inches from the wall to which the sign is <br />to be affixed. The gross surface area of a wall, canopy or marquee sign may be increased by ten percent if such wall <br />sign: <br />a. Consists only of individual, outlined alphabetic, numeric and/or symbolic characters without background <br />except that provided by the building surface to which the sign is to be affixed; and <br />b. Illumination, if any,. is achieved through shielded illumination, shielded silhouette lighting, or shielded spdt <br />lighting but not ahy lighting where the light source is visible or exposed on the face or sides of the characters. <br />(2) Ground sign. There shall not be more than one ground sign for each parcel or per road frontace on parcels with <br />more tltan one (1) road frontace, not to exceed an a¢ere¢ate of two (Zl around signs. The gross surface area of a ground <br />sign shal(not exceed 100 square feet for each exposed face nor exceed an aggregate gross surface area of 200 square <br />feet.
