Mayor Ramsey agreed that the advertising should be phased as well -the Ramsey Resident, the
utility bill.
Councilmember Wise suggested the Anoka Shopper.
Management Intern Hendricks stated that we run a Ramsey Star Express paragraph in the
Ramsey Resident but we do not highlight the fare.
Councilmember Wise suggested making it an ad campaign.
Councilmember Look stated that we were looking at the Union -put in a full-page ad - in color
-for $250 they stuff it, etc.
Councilmember Jeffrey stated that maybe a question we are not asking on the survey is if there is
a time that works better for you. He stated his daughter rides the train because the bus times do
not work for her work hours.
Mr. Ulrich suggested maybe a broader survey of potential riders - a half sheet survey in utility
bills -asking what would make you ride the bus.
Mayor Ramsey felt it was a good idea to advertise in these more free venues first.
Councilmember McGlone agreed. He suggested engaging new business by offering a coupon of
some sort.
Councilmember Elvig stated the coupon would have to come from the City and could maybe be
something for a business in the Town Center.
Director of Public Works Olson asked if Council was saying to move forward in a month or so or
to bring this back.
Mayor Ramsey stated to put something in the Ramsey Resident and utility bills and let Council
know what happens from that.
Mr. Olson talked about the RFP for providing service and asked Council what kind of vehicles
do they want and what about the length of term.
Mayor Ramsey responded he would say a year
Mr. Olson suggested that might be kind of a problem. For Laidlaw it would be okay -they
already have the buses and fare boxes. However -some of the other suppliers will have to
secure buses, put in fare boxes, etc. for a short term like a year. It's pretty difficult if our term is
two and a half years.
Councilmember Elvig stated we could have a train in here in one and half years
City Council Work Session -June 1, 2010
