Gateway Industrial Park No. 5, staff uncovered approximately 7,650 cubic yards of concrete <br />rubble and 3,490 cubic yards of miscellaneous debris that needs to be moved and ultimately <br />requires disposal. Quotes were received from four local Contractors and ranged from $40,520 to <br /> <br />$111,140. A summary of the quotes are as follows: <br /> <br /> Bidder <br />Sauter & Sons, Inc. <br />Erickson Construction <br />Wickenhauser Excavating, Inc. <br />Veit & Company, Inc. <br /> <br />Amount ofBid <br />$40,520.00 <br />$66,814.50 <br />$8O,000.00 <br />$111,140.00 <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson stated that the quote submitted .from Sauter & Sons, Inc. is below the <br />Engineer's estimate of $45,000 and appears to be a responsible quote. This quote represents an <br />attractive price and it was recommended by Hakanson Anderson Associates to direct Sauter & <br />Sons, Inc. to dispose of the concrete rubble and miscellaneous debris. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired as to where the funds would come from. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied that TIF District. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if there was other buried concrete on the site. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied that he was unable to answer that question. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if the rubble they were talking about was within the road <br />right-of-way. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied yes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if staff had any feeling for whether there is many other <br />instances of buried rubble on the property. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied that he would not be able to answer that unless they dug down and <br />try to expose something. He noted that Mr. Sauter did not run into a lot of concrete and soil <br />borings were done on the site which did not show anything. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if there was any way to address the issue in the purchase <br />agreement for the property. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich replied that the property is being acquired by condemnation so there is <br />no purchase agreement, but he will bring up the issue at the condemnation heatings. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if there was any way that the City could check the rest of <br />the site for buried concrete. <br /> <br />City Council/May 8, 2001 <br />Page 13 of 20 <br /> <br />-27- <br /> <br /> <br />
