Customers who are licensed to handle these materials then have to
present me with their certification paperwork and flu out forms identifying that
appliance with serial ancUor Id numbers along with company name and address. All
this information is available upon request for the county or state enforcement
agencies involved. This paperwork is required by the state and some local agencies.
Automobiles have similar requirements; Freon reclamation, fluid reclamation, and
reclamation of the mercury switches in the hood and trunk of most cars on the road
today. These are not issues that can be overlooked and in fact are becoming more
and more strict every single day. We do and will continue to comply with all state
federal and local authorities on these issues. You as council and community
members alike must understand that is always going to be a need for some outdoor
storage as it not feasible to have every item indoors. We are currently working with
city staffto build a new facility that would make it possible to have 85% of our
operation indoors. The new facility will provide a respectable appearance and much
more efficient operation. With that expansion comes some major investment and
planning for today as well as the future. All scrap ferrous metal processed in the out
door area is than shipped to North Star Steel to be melted down into new product.
As the facility grows and progresses we will soon be able to except all types of
metal and process them properly. That will only come in time and proper planning to
make sure that all materials are handled in a safe and environmentally friendly
manner.

Processing of automobiles isa system of steps. First a car is scaled in to
acquire the weight so we can pay the customer for their product. Second the tires are
removed and placed in a storage container to await shipment to the tire processor.
Third the car is then placed on the drain rack as to drain and reclaim al! the fluids;
.which are then sent to our facility in St. Paul Park to heat the building.' Once the
fluids are drained; the gas tank is then removed along with the battery and mercury
swkches. Batteries and switches are stored in leak proof containers awaiting
shipment to their respective recycling from. Gas tanks are bailed with the sheet metal
if they are steel or sent to the trash dumpster al[er being cut in half if they are plastic.
Finally the engine and driveline are removed and placed in leak proof containers or
storage bins protected from the elements to await shipment to our St. Paul Park
facility to be processed in our newly constructed indoor motor crusher. Once these
steps have been taken the car is placed inside ora crusher to compact as many as 6
shells at one time. The car bundles are stacked on a concrete slab until we
accumulate enough for one truckload. Approximately 16 to 20 shells consuming a
space approximately 20'w 16'd 8' h. Once that has been achieved the shells are
then shipped by truck to North Star Steel to be processed through a shredder. We do
not stock pile material to try to get the market edge-with volume. This becomes an
unsightly and somewhat expensive method in operating a facility such as this one.
All materials are shipped by truck as quickly as possible. This facility currently
generates approximately 6,000 tons per year of processed material and will grow as
your community and those around us do.

Ferrous scrap processing consists ora few things; Cutting torches for
processing some of your heavier iron, balers and crushers for your lighter gauge

._ :-355-
