I
'1
I

I
I

Chain Link Fence (5' Tall Vinyl Clad):
350 Ifx $15.00 = $5,250.00

Estimated Total: $40,725.00

Add Culvert Safetw Aprons:

Anoka County Highway Department has stipulated that safety aprons be added on both ends of a
18" RCP culvert located in the roadway ditch on the west side of Armstrong Blvd. (CSAH #83)
and under 153rd Avenue NW. The project plans as approved by Anoka County did not include
aprons. We are not certain why Anoka County would approve the'plans without the aprons, if, in
fact, they are required by the Highway Department.

18" RCP Safet~.~' Apron:
2 each x $1,050.00 - $2,100.00

Summary of Additional Construction Costs:

· Additional Modular Block Wall:
· Modify Modular Block Wall
Compressive Strength per
State Aid Requirements
· Safety Fencing
Decorative Fencing
Vinyl Chain Li~]k Fence

· Safety Aprons at Armstrong &
157 Avenue per Anoka County

$ 59,157.00 (actual)
$ 11,225.00 (.actual)

5,475.00 (estimate)
5,250.00 (estimate)

$ 2,100.00 (actual)

· Total to Date $113,207.00

Discussion Comments:

Modular Block Wall: Although the entire modular block wall, both above and below ground
components, were included in the approved plan, i't is apparem that a~i o:f the modular 'block wall
was not originally accounted for in the plans and specifications prepared for bidding. However,
whether you include or exclude the bur/ed portion of the modular block in the bid document, the
overall cost of the modular block wall as speci£md in the approved plan would remain essentially
the same.

MnDOT produced a yearly average bid price for awarded projects docmnent, with modular blbck
walls in 2000 averaging $15.00 per square foot insfal:ted. Otherwise, our company generally
experiences $20.00 per square foot fbr commercial based projects. Here we have a unit price of
$13.50 per square thor, which would not change even if the additional quantities were included
in the Bid Form. Thus, the lowest unit price was bid and will apply to the increased qumxtities
required by the approved plans and specifications.

G:'~Mendota l-lmghts Production\Cliems\Ramsey\99-224-s\CotTespondence\200 l~lankowski Ltr 8-7-01 .doc

Page 3

-42~
