Mr. Ulrich stated that the Charter Commission put a lot of thought in the question and how it was
explained to the public.
Councilmember Wise suggested keeping the explanation the same in the Ramsey Resident but to
not bother sending it out in the utility bills.
Council was in agreement.
FUTURE TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION
Mayor Ramsey asked if the Council is interested in discussing the City purchasing computers for
Council.
Mr. Ulrich added that he and Mayor Ramsey have had discussions of the City making a flat
contribution to each of the Councilmembers for purchase of their computers for the new Council
coming in as well as looking at everyone purchasing their own and being reimbursed — making it
a flat fee. This would have to be approved prior to the election and could be approved for the
Council coming in.
Councilmember McGlone stated that if the City does it that way it becomes income. If the City
did it another way, Councilmembers could buy it for a dollar — maybe that's something to think
about.
Councilmember Jeffrey asked if it would be an every two -year benefit to which Mayor Ramsey
replied the thought was every four years.
Councilmember Dehen asked what's wrong with the way we are doing it now; the City buys it
and when we leave we give it back.
Mayor Ramsey stated he likes to use a Mac and other people like different computers. He noted
that Councilmember Jeffrey has to have three different computers/ This way you can buy what
you prefer.
Mr. Ulrich stated our IT person is not totally excited about supporting both Macs and PC's.
Mayor Ramsey stated this takes the pressure off City staff — it would belong to each
Councilmember — so each member would take care of it himself. He also thought the City
should provide the Councilmembers with an air card for internet service. That would be part of
the proposal. He added that because this is an election year, he did not want this to become a big
deal.
Councilmember Dehen stated to Mayor Ramsey that he is the only one with a Mac. He added
that he was not in favor of this reimbursement and feels the way it is now works fine.
City Council Work Session / October 26, 2010
Page 8 of 10
