Absent: None. <br /> <br />Case #2: <br /> <br />End Probationary Period of Public Works Maintenance Worker John <br />E. Nelson <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith reported that John E. Nelson began <br />working for the City as a Public Works Maintenance Worker on June 15, 1998. The <br />probationary period for his position is six months. Mr. Nelson's supervisors have rated <br />his performance satisfactory and recommend that he be retained as a regular, full-time <br />City employee. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to recommend Council <br />adopt the resolution ending the probationary period for Public Works Maintenance John <br />E. Nelson and granting him the status of regular, full-time employee, effective December <br />15, 1998. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Garnet and Councilmember Beyer. Voting No: <br />None. <br /> <br />Case #3: <br /> <br />Authorize Process to Hire Secretary for Community Development <br />Department <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith pointed out that the approved 1999 <br />operating budget contains a new position that will provide clerical support to the <br />Community Development Department. This is an entry-level position in the AFSCME <br />bargaining unit and reports to the Community Development Director. The hiring salary <br />would be the starting step of the 1999 compensation plan, $24,066. She explained that <br />the opening will be posted internally for two weeks and then advertised externally if <br />necessary. Applications will be rated independently by three people, according to pre- <br />established criteria. At least five of the top ranked applicants will be invited to a <br />structured interview with a panel, which includes the Community Development Director, <br />the Administrative Services Manager and at least one other staff person. The interview <br />panel will forward its hiring recommendation to the City Council for final action. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to recommend that <br />Council authorize staff to begin the process to fill the secretarial position in the <br />Community Development Department. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
