Councilmember Anderson questioned if they were discussing a consultant to assist in the hiring <br />process or to assist in organizing the Community Development Department. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied that the case pertained to hiring a consultant to assist with the <br />hiring process, but the discussion has turned to hiring a consultant to assist in organizing the <br />Community Development department. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen questioned if they hire a consultant to assist in the hiring process <br />what kind of guarantee does the City have that they will approve of the candidate that they select. <br />He requested that if a consultant is used to assist in the hiring process that they be paid based on <br />bringing in a successful candidate. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson responded that the City first needs to determine the skills that they are <br />looking for before filling the positions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendfiksen inquired if the City should tailor the job to fit the candidate or find a <br />candidate to fill the position. He suggested placing a generic ad in the paper to allow more <br />people to submit applications. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman suggested that Council should contact Zoning Administrator Frolik <br />and inquire what she would need to run the Community Development Department. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that the City needs to get the ads out soon. <br /> <br />Councilmember Connolly suggested that the City hire a consultant to assist with planning in the <br />interim. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman noted that he will be bringing a proposal to the Council to hire a <br />consultant to fill the gaps in the interim, and also fill the role as a mentor if needed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated that she was not comfortable with making a decision to hire a <br />department head without further discussion. <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Pruitt Hottinger questioned what positions the Council would <br />like advertised. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied advertising for positions in planning, community development, and <br />administrative. - <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen suggested an ad stating that the City of Ramsey has several <br />vacancies without any specific titles. <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Pruitt I-Iottinger replied that the ad should not be too vague. <br /> <br />Personnel Committee/October t2, I999 <br /> Page 4 of 9 <br /> <br /> <br />
