From soup to nuts <br /> <br /> As you proceed planning the delicaeies of the main <br />course, be sure to establish a~balanced diet of organi- <br />zation and fun. Committee chairs should gather to <br />brainstorm ideas and finalize event dates and details. <br />As you select your fund-raising recipes from the <br />following pages, be sure to keep the following factors <br />in mind: <br /> <br />· Conflicting dates: Check around and make <br /> sure your plans don't conflict with any major <br /> community events or other fund-raising efforts. <br /> · Ask everyone you know about activities at their <br /> schools and churches to minimize conflicts. It's <br /> not likely you'll find a perfect event-free day, <br /> but some will be better than others. <br /> <br />· Location: Where you hold playground fund <br /> raisers will be dictated by the nature of the <br /> event. Try to also consider the best of the <br /> possibilities in terms of parking and visibility to <br /> help assure good turnout. <br /> <br />Using the direct approach <br /> Raising money through direct solicitation can be a <br />Iucrative process and a good supplement to the rest <br />of your campaign, but it requires persistence. <br /> Remember: Donations don't have to come in the <br />form of cash for the playground. Be sure to also <br />approach potential donors who might be able to <br />contribute goods or services such as concrete, wood <br />chips and hole drilling equipment. Any donation is <br />appreciated. <br /> Going out into the community performing these <br />highly visible aetivitibs bolsters campaign image- <br />building and will fuel community spirit. <br /> <br />As is true with a greSt dining experience, <br />details count. With the recipes on the following <br />pages anyone can make a fund-raising meal <br />~ with the right sobs team, it can be a fund- <br />raidng feast. <br /> <br />The sales team <br /> It may seem strange to approach fund raising as a <br />sales job, but that is exactly what it is. Moving potential <br />cont~ ibutors to support the playground with their time, <br />money or services is a nonprofit cause, but the prin- <br />ciples of sales are your keys to sheeess. <br /> Successful playground campaigners will tell you tho* <br />attitude in your earnpaigrt sales team is everything. <br />Whether it's a raffle for a trip to Hawaii or a ticket to <br />watch a well-known local figure kiss a pig, the skills of <br />the team are what really count. <br /> The fund-raising chairperson should search out the <br />sales team members early on in the campaign.
