RAMSEY FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> BODY SPECIFICATIONS <br /> <br />15" Rear Step - Slant Tail Fins <br />REAR BEAVER TAIL/REAR STEP <br /> <br />Straight back beaver tail shall slope down from top of hose bed to 14" from rear face of rear <br />compartments at the tail board. Beaver tail to be spaced 1/2" up from tail board to allow water <br />and debris to pass through. The compartments shall remain vertical with tail and backup lights <br />mounted on rear surface. <br /> <br />The rear step shall be 15 inches deep and fabricated of aluminum treadplate. The rear step shall <br />be bolted in place with stainless steel bolts and locking nuts. There shall be a full width <br />subframe assembly fabricated of the same material as the body subframe furnished below the <br />rear step to provide support to the rear step. The subframe assembly shall be fastened to the <br />chassis frame rails. There shall be a sign attached to the rear of the apparatus that states: "DO <br />NOT RIDE ON REAR STEP, DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT". <br /> <br />Rear Two Eyes - Frame Rail Extensions <br />REAR TOW EYES <br /> <br />There shall be two tow eyes furnished on each rear frame rail. There shall be a bolt on flame rail <br />extensions installed from the inside wall of the compartment to the rear of the body. The frame <br />rail extension shall be boxed in and bolted to the compartment floor. The rear tow eyes are to be <br />sealed to prevent water from entering the rear compartment. <br /> <br />The tow eyes are to have an inside diameter of three (3) inches. <br /> <br />The rear tow eyes are to be located to allow the rear of the vehicle to be lifted without damage to <br />body sheet metal. The tow eye mounting shall have sufficient strength to withstand towing <br />without vehicle damage. <br /> <br />Four Rear Grip Surface Steps - Two Each Side <br />REAR GRIP SURFACE STEPS <br /> <br />FOUR (4) aluminum grip surface steps (42 sq. in. surface each step) on rear of body, two (2) on <br />each side. Step spacing shall be no more than 18" apart to meet to NFPA recommendations. <br />Each step shall be capable of sustaining a 500 lb. static load.
