Mr. Walther
October 21, 1998
Page 2

The Department is required by law to allow 30 days to commenting agencies for review of permit applications.
The permit applications 99-6037 and 99-6042, were submitted to the Department respectively on September 8
and September 23,1998, by Terry L Luke and James S Weidenbach. However, there have been concerns
expressed with the projects as currently proposed.

In order to address the expressed concerns, we have with the met with both Mr. Weidenbach and Mr. Luke
September 24th and again with Mr. Weidenbach on September 30~. During our visits, we had the opportunity
to discuss possible alternative minimal impact solutions. It seems reasonable that the next step is to coordinate
our permit process with the City's Ordinance requirements.

While we understand and appreciate the concerns of the individuaI landowners to stop further erosion of the banks
and their efforts to "improve the look of' their properties," we would like to see the natural features of the sites
preserved to the highest degree possible.

We appreciate the opportunity to provide coniments to you on this matter.

Please contact Area Hydrologist Tom Hovey or me at 772-7910 should you have questions.

Sincerely,

Patricia Peltier
Hydrologist

enclosure

Terry Luke w/enclosure
Jim Weidenbach w/enclosure
Anoka Conservation District, Becky Wozney w/enclosure
