I <br />:1 <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Ms. Casey stated football needs improvements, too, such as space to play and lighting. <br /> <br />Mr. Morris provided the Commission with the current sports rosters. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns stated the numbers needed are those which list how many kids are playing, <br />how many games are being played, and so on. <br /> <br />Ms. Connolly stated that soccer and football teams could share space and lighting. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns replied that current money must go towards the purchase of the 83 acres, and <br />that lighting for fields may have to wait. <br /> <br />Ms. Connolly stated that there are kids ready to play now, and it may take too long to wait for <br />lighting. <br /> <br />Mr. Morris stated the biggest complaint regarding soccer had been the lack of uniforms, and this <br />has been resolved for very little money. <br /> <br />Ms. Casey slated more parents need to participate in coaching. <br /> <br />Ms. Connolly said kids need to play at early ages so as to learn the rules of games. <br /> <br />Mr. Lacey reiterated the fact that the City must be resourceful and sports advocates must be <br />patient until hard numbers are provided to the Commission. <br /> <br />Ms. Connolly asked if, as money becomes available, it were used for soccer. <br /> <br />Mr. Lacey replied that yes, on the 83-acre parcel of land, soccer would be emphasized. <br /> <br />Ms. Connolly then asked about the 35-acre parcel and whether it would be used for soccer as <br />well. <br /> <br />Mr. Lacey answered that this hasn't been determined, as this parcel of land became available only <br />months ago. <br /> <br />Ms. Casey stated that she is here to represent ail sports groups, and that they are requesting <br />assistance and communication with the Park and Recreation Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Lacey replied that this is being done as much as possible, but that it is difficult for the <br />Commission to act as referees. He added that citizens need to work together to prepare <br />manageable schedules. <br /> <br />Ms. Connolly stated that, besides schedules, the City needs to know who is playing where and at <br />what times. <br /> <br /> Park and Recreation Commission/July 9, 1998 <br /> Page 7 of 12 <br /> <br /> <br />
