Mr. Morris replied that this is due to the available space and traffic flow during games. He then added that, when compiling the numbers, it's important to include adult teams as well. Mr. Kapler stated that Council Member Natalie Haas Steffen requested a new off-street park trail from 149th following the 116 route. He added that she would like to know the Commission's feelings on this request. She believes a trail in this area would provide the neighborhood with identity. Motion by Commissioner Droegemueller, seconded by Commissioner Asfahl, recommending approval of the C.I.P. through I999, with the option of future discussions of the plans for 2000- 2004. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Acting Chair Johns, Commissioners Droegemueller, Asfahl, and LaMere. Voting No: None. Absent: Chair Cook, Commissioners Ostrum and Rolfe. Case #2: Determine Need for July 23, 1998 C.I.P. Workshop It was noted that the purpose of this case is to decide whether or not an additional July workshop meeting is of value in the C.I.P. examination, given the tentatively scheduled public hearing on the Parks Five-Year C.I.P. Motion by Commissioner Droegemueller, seconded by Acting Chair Johns, to schedule an additional meeting on July 23, 1998. Mr. Lacey agreed to notify Mark Boos of this additional meeting. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Acting Chair Johns, Commissioners Droegemueller, Asfahl, and LaMere. Voting No: None. Absent: Chair Cook, Commissioners Ostrum and Rolfe. Case #3: Discuss Community-Built Playground It was noted that, for the past couple of years, the Commission has discussed a community-built playground for Central Park. This case is an opportunity to develop an outline for how the project may unfold. This outline can be used to prepare: · A project description to receive City Council approval · A project time line and work plan · A partnership contact list · A project narrative for use in "selling" the concept to businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in participating Acting Chair Johns stated that community involvement, including the R.Y.A.A., is needed to help raise funds for this park. She added that money would be coming in from Lawful Gambling. She stated that the City may approve a matching gift program to provide $20,000-$24,000 in funds.
