Architecture <br /> <br />Building Design, Character and Expression <br />Architectural character should not imitate historic examples, <br />but rather promote the integration of both traditional and <br />contemporary styles. Modern interpretations of historic models <br />are encouraged. <br />· Street facing facades and additional design features shall <br />define the street edge at the build-to line. <br />· Building facades should be articulated with a variety of <br />planes, projections, openings and recessed areas <br />· Architectural emphasis and detailing to be directed to provide <br />interest and accomodation to the experience of the pedestrian <br /> <br />Scale: <br />· The relationship between architectural building elements and <br />the size of the human body are fundamental to the way a <br />person experiences the built environment. Smaller scale <br />architectural elements are encouraged. <br /> <br />Proportion: <br />· The comparative or harmonious relation of one part to <br />another (or several parts to the whole), with respect to <br />magnitude, quantity or degree <br />· Emphasis on harmonious and pleasing proportions is <br />necessary <br /> <br />Architectural guidelines describe the character, elements and desired direction <br />for design and construction of buildings proposed in each subdistdct. <br /> <br />General Design Principles <br />· Create unique vibrant sense of place <br />· Create a new Town Center with a vertical and horizontally <br />mixed-use core <br />· Provide a mix of housing types, styles, sizes, and prices to <br />attract a diverse population and supplement the existing <br />housing stock in Ramsey (primarily single family homes) <br />· Provide pedestrian linkages throughout the development <br />enabling residents to walk to the core district <br />· Design building heights and density to increase as they <br />approach the core district <br />· Provide a variety of architectural styles while maintaining a <br />level of continuity amongst the various districts, and building <br />types <br />· Provide multiple pedestrian entries facing the street <br /> · Consistency of architectural expression <br /> · Create unique vibrant sense of place <br /> <br /> <br />
