Architecture Building Design, Character and Expression Architectural character should not imitate historic examples, but rather promote the integration of both traditional and contemporary styles. Modern interpretations of historic models are encouraged. · Street facing facades and additional design features shall define the street edge at the build-to line. · Building facades should be articulated with a variety of planes, projections, openings and recessed areas · Architectural emphasis and detailing to be directed to provide interest and accomodation to the experience of the pedestrian Scale: · The relationship between architectural building elements and the size of the human body are fundamental to the way a person experiences the built environment. Smaller scale architectural elements are encouraged. Proportion: · The comparative or harmonious relation of one part to another (or several parts to the whole), with respect to magnitude, quantity or degree · Emphasis on harmonious and pleasing proportions is necessary Architectural guidelines describe the character, elements and desired direction for design and construction of buildings proposed in each subdistdct. General Design Principles · Create unique vibrant sense of place · Create a new Town Center with a vertical and horizontally mixed-use core · Provide a mix of housing types, styles, sizes, and prices to attract a diverse population and supplement the existing housing stock in Ramsey (primarily single family homes) · Provide pedestrian linkages throughout the development enabling residents to walk to the core district · Design building heights and density to increase as they approach the core district · Provide a variety of architectural styles while maintaining a level of continuity amongst the various districts, and building types · Provide multiple pedestrian entries facing the street · Consistency of architectural expression · Create unique vibrant sense of place
