o

The commissions/boards sometimes deal with controversial issues. Please give
us an example of how you have handled a controversial issue in the past. What
was the issue, who was involved, how did you handle it, and what was the
outcome?

Planning Commissioner: This question is best answered after some time
for reflection. Commissioner interviews, in my experience, are very brief
and rushed (far too much so). If this kind of question (which requires
the candidate to think back through a wide range of personal
experiences) is used, I recommend that interviews be given more time or
that the candidate be given the questions before the interview (perhaps the
candidate can be asked to come 10-15 minutes prior to interview time and
be presented with the questions upon arrival). Time for adequate reflection
will not skew the interview results.

Consensus by Park and Recreation Commission: I Love this question! As
an interviewee, it gives me the opportunity to demonstrate how I can excel
in any situation.., it helps reinforce a candidates strength and ability to
face diverse issues and people. As for applicants, they should be able to
recall a situation in which things weren't favorable or were not going as
planned, explain the obstacles and then describe how they dealt with the
issue and overcame the obstacles.

Park and Recreation Commissioner: I like this question. One of our
commissioners really loved this question and added the following
comment: "1 love this question! If appointed to the Public Safety Board, what area or topic
would you personally like to improve upon?

Planning Commission--How do you envision the growth of Ramsey? Please
briefly describe your philosophy regarding how the City should grow.

Planning Commissioner: Very good

G:~Administration\HumanResources\Commissions\lnterview Questions\Commissioner Comments on Past Interview Questions 09-15.doc
