She asked for approval to post the positions. <br /> <br />Chief Gustafson commented on the ratio of officers and supervisors. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued relating to acting chief duties in the absence of the Police Chief. It was <br />determined that the Chief would work that out. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to recommend that Council <br />authorize staff'to post the two Sergeant position vacancies internally for two weeks, from May t4 <br />to May 28. Start date for the position would be on or after July 1, 1997, at an annual salary of <br />$51,000. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec and Councilmember Beyer. Voting No: None. <br />Absent: Councilmember Haas Steffen. <br /> <br />Case #3: Receive Recommendation for Appointments to Charter Commission <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith stated that, of the five Charter Commission <br />members whose terms are up, four are eligible for re-appointment. Mr. Bernard Steffen is not as <br />he has served two complete, consecutive four-year terms. The other four have indicated a <br />willingness to serve another term. She continued that in February, 1997, five applicants were <br />interviewed for the Charter Commission seat to which Ken Peterson was eventually appointed. <br />The remaining four applicants were invited to a second interview on May 6, 1997, with a new <br />interview panel. The recommendation was to appoint Timothy M. Vogt to the Commission. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to recommend that Council <br />forward a recommendation to the Chief Judge of the Tenth Judicial District to re-appoint Dennis <br />Donovan, Keith Kiefer, Richard Netzloff and Virginia Spain-Br/st to Charter Commission terms <br />to expire May 12, 2001, and to appoint Timothy M. Vogt to. the Charter Commission. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec and Councilmember Beyer. "Voting No: None. <br />Absent: Councilmember Haas Steffen. <br /> <br />Case #4: Receive and Review Draft policy on Training and Tuition Reimbursement <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith noted that the tuition reimbursement policy the <br />City currently has is about a three-year process, and it's not working. She put together a draft <br />policy that is easier to understand. It offers training for job related classes and every employee in <br />this organization has received some type of training. The advanced education portion is more <br />difficult to address.
