Schroeder, City Administrator <br /> <br />HOME <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Charter Commission has been discussing initiating the process that would lengthen the <br />term of the Mayor from two years to four years. At their meeting in November, they <br />directed staff to draft an ordinance which would amend the Charter as such. This draft <br />ordinance was brought to them for review at their February 1, 1996 meeting and following <br />review of the ordinance the Commission voted to present it to Council for introduction. <br /> <br />The amendment states that commencing with the election year 2000, the mayor shall serve <br />for a term of four years and/or until a successor is elected and qualifies. <br /> <br />Enclosed for your information is a copy of the State Statute §410.12, Subd. 7. entitled <br />"Amendment by ordinance". Also enclosed is the ordinance for your review. <br /> <br />Commission Action: <br /> <br />Motion to introduce Ordinance g96-XX amending Chapter 2 of the Ramsey City Charter <br />entitled "Form of Government", Section 2.3, changing the mayor's term from two years to <br />four years commencing with the election year 2000 and to schedule public hearing on this <br />amendment for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, 1996. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br /> <br />City Administrator <br /> <br />CC: 02/13/96 <br /> <br />/jmt <br /> <br /> <br />
