Mr. Raudio wondered when that changed from 150 feet on both sides and why some give less
right-of-way than others. He inquired if this property was put on bids to the public.

Mr. Schroeder replied that it was once it was known it was for sale; however, it was not actually
marketed.

Mr. Raudio stated he didn't know anything about it.

Mr. Schroeder stated it was handled much like the Business Park - it was not advertised in the
paper, however, Council has to have two readings of an ordinance in order to sell City-owned
property.

Margaret Connolly, 15235 Kamacite Street NW, Ramsey, inquired if anyone had looked at
"picking up" the old school house.

Mr. Schroeder informed her that a moving company (Ernst) had put in a bid on moving it. There
were structural engineers in the building not too long ago also but he was not aware of what their
findings were.

Ms. Connolly inquired about remodeling the building to which Mr. Schroeder replied that we have
estimates on it, but no fn-m bids. This will not be bid until some of the other issues are addressed.

Ms. Connolly asked if the use for the old school house would be commercial.

Mr. Schroeder replied that it hasn't been decided but that he would guess it would be used for
community space.

Ms. Connolly questioned the lack of parking.

Mr. Schroeder responded that community events would probably take place in the evenings - off-
peak times.

Ms. Connolty reminded Mr. Schroeder that it has been stated that other facilities in the City are not
used to their full potential for meetings.

Mr. Schroeder reiterated that it has not yet been decided what the end use will be.

Ms. Connolly expressed a concern about the property not being bid on. She wondered if any
developers in Rarnsey were contacted to see if they. were interested in the land.

Mr. Schroeder stated that the City had an individual interested in buying this property. It was
brought to the City Council for consideration - it was handled much like the City's industrial park
is handled. We do not go out and ask if anyone is interested - we are approached.

Ms. Connolly stated she was uncomfortable taking the $80,000 as she felt it may not be enough to
fix the building.

Mr. Raudio interjected that there is a difference between the industrial park and this property on
T.H. ~47. He knows there is property for sale in the industrial park, he did not know this land
was for sale.

Councilmember Zimmerman stated he supports restoration of this building but does not support
this action if the City did not go out for bids.

City Council/February 27, 1996

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
