Greetings:

Per our recent conversation I am sending you this detailed infromation. I hope tl~is helps
your planning process and answers some questions. Please feel free to contact me with
any questions regarding this matter at (612)754-6564. My contact infromation is also
included at the end of this document.
As you have already attended one of my seminars you should have a good understanding
of the basics of the Internet. You may need additional information regarding Web Sites.
Here are some important things to consider when deciding to set up a Web site.

1) Content
2) Design (style)
3) File storage
4) Updates
5) Marketing
6) System Administrator (Webmaster) vs Independant Contractor

Content:
This is the most important aspect. If your site does not provide worthwhile information
people will not utilize it. The easiest way to determine content is to ask "What is my goal
for this Site?". It may be to promote business growth (economic). You then decide what
information you can provide to achieve this end goal.

Design:
It is usually a good idea to design a site that is very easy to navigate around. If your site is
too complex many people wilt not find what they are looking for and/or simply get
flustrated and leave. Limiting graphics to small images and/or few images is usually best.
This allows people to access the information quickly.

File sotrage:
Web Sites are actuaully computer files of information and as such they need to be store
somewhere and be accessable. There are tl~ee common ways to do this.

A dedicated server-This is a computer that is connected full time to the Internet. There
are many hardware (equipment) requirements for this as well as software (computer
programs) and personnel requirements. This is the top of the line system but also the most
expensive. Equipment would run around $15,000 and'a System Administrator to operate
it a salary of $40,000+/yr if the Aministrator also maintains a Web Site. This also
requires a high speed phone connection which could run over $10,000/yr. Large
companies and cities usually go this route since they have the budget for it and it works
well for very large Web Sites (houndreds of pages). Requires a Domain Name
Registration.

Virtual Server-This is a program that allows you to share a dedicated server and appear
to be rmming your own dedicated server. The major advantage is that you save equipment
cost and Administralor salary. This still allows a registered Domain Name
(www.cityname.org). Yearly charges to lease this type of system are around $700. You
will still need to hire/contract a Web developer to maintain/update site but this does save
you from a full time salary. This is well suited for small to medium sized sites. Requires a
