(Please ~pe your answeO : The plan for community policing in the City of Ramsey is for all Patrol officers, eventually, to have assigned to them a geographic area of the city. ~his is not to be a patrol area for .~he officer but, rather, will be a "neighborhood" with which the ~fficer will become very familiar. While the officer may not 9riginate a report dealing with an incident in his or her hssigned Community all reports of incidents occurring there will be forward'ed to the officer. By doing this the Community ~fficer will be able to directly assess and address situations Which, if ignored or overlooked as is frequently the case in a more traditional patrol scheme, become far more difficult and ~xpensive (in human and financial terms) to deal with. Initially, with the hiring of the COPS FAST officer, the bity will be divided into six areas. As the program advances and ~s evaluated the number of areas will increase and the size ~orrespondingty will decrease until all patrol officers have a ~ommunity. A part of the hiring procedure for the COPS FAST officer will be a determination that the candidates understand ~ommunity policing concepts and have a willingness to be a part ~f Ramsey's plan.
