I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I

Enterprise Park Traffic SOdy

Anoka, Minnesota

It would be desirable to provide turning lanes at the intersection.
Northbound Thurston Avenue should have a left turn lane and a
combined right turn and thro~gh lane. A left turn lane for
westbound and southbound traffic should be provided.

Thurston Avenue Internal Intersections

The three intersections between the Burlington Northern Railroad
Bridge and ~ounty Road 116 have some operational problems. The
85 left tm-ns from Enterprise Boulevard to southbound Thurston
Avenue must find a gap in over 700 northbound vehicles. This may
be somewhat diBcicult, especially with an additional 500 coming
southbound from County Road 116.

Lund Boulevard t:-affic is not heavy, but will also fi.nd some difficulty
in finding gaps on Thurston Avenue. The eastbound to nortl~ound
left turns will face long delays in the p.m. peak hour, primarily
because of the 441 southbound vehicles and the heavy volume of
northbound and northbound left turning traffic.

The McKinley Street and.:Tharston Avenue intersection will also see
relatively heavy volumes of traffic. P.M. peak hour through traffic
in northbound/southbound directions is over 800. This will provide
little oppommi~ for any left tums or through movements on
McKinley Street.

Because all three intersections are relatively heavy, a four-way stop
sign condition at any of the intersections may create backup because
of the high proportion of traffic on Thurston Avenue. The volumes
are heavy, enough that a four-way stop would "meter" traffic to the
adjacent intersection. Installing a four-way stop at one location will
therefore provide mixed benefits.

Traffic along Thurston Avenue should routinely be monitored at the
three intersections and delays should be observed and, ff necessary,
measured. The looped circulation pattern may make McKinley
Street the most logical intersection to provide four-way stop sig-n
control at in the future. Even a traffic signal may ultimately be
desirable, although the future volumes do appear somewhat Iow to
justify,' the sigT~al. A westbound left turn lane would be desirable.

Thurston Avenue at Highway 10

The traffic volumes forecasted on Thurston Avenue at the
intersection with Highway I0 are relatively high. Major concern is
the p.m. peak hour 863 southbound to eastbound left turns. This
volume would necessitate a dual left mm lane. If installed, the

^-^ o gso,.oo
Page7
