Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:~

At the May 9, i1995 meeting, the Committee reviewed the proposed Education Policy,
suggested impr~ovements and directed that comments be received by Staff. The comment
period ended May 31, 1995. The questions received involved the del'tuition of accredited
(what about B~A accreditation?) and also the last sentence of the policy (shouldn't it be
extended further?). Earlier comments had been received regarding correspondence
courses.

On the former ~md latter cases, I would suggest that these issues be taken up on a case by
case basis rathe~ than attempt to legislate for all possibilities. On the issue of qualifications,
I believe this Council has wished to encourage training. Therefore, an expression of
minimizing trai~ ing. b. eyond a probationary period would not reflect the Council intent of
concentrating on training opportunities.

The proposed p~
Committee A,
Motion to recon

)licy is a bold/strikeout version of the May 1995 proposal.

:tion:

unend Council approve of the Education Policy.

Reviewed by:

City AdministratOr

PC: 06/13/95

/jmt
