Page 2
T.H.: 47 at 167th Avenue N.W.
Mr. Steven J. Jankowski
June 19, 1995

AlthOugh there is a storm water ponding area in the way; do you know if it is likely that Iodine
Street N.W. would ever connect to T.H. 47 opposite 167th Avenue N.W.? Mn/DOT has
recently been discussing access issues with Local Government agencies in an attempt to maintain
the future integrity of the trunk highway system. We are encouraging cities to develop
comprehensive plans with full access intersections at one half to one mile spacing along the trunk
highway. The local street should be a collector that serves a regional purpose to get the most
benefit out of the access. If 167th Avenue N.W. is planned as one of those full access locations
the remaining access points should reflect the mentioned spacing.

A reView of a plat map of the area indicates that some reservation of Right of Way may have
occurred on the east side of T.H. 47 and in the Northwest quadrant of the intersection. Do you
know if the same was done with the commercial development of the Southwest quadrant? A copy
of the plat map we have on file is attached. Right of Way acquisition has become a major cost
component of highway improvements. Having the right of way reserved for the future is a big
help in funding and justifying improvements.

If yOu have any questions or comments on the study or other issues please call me at 779-5195
or Susan Scharenbroich at 779-5185.

DiviSion Traffic Studies Engineer
!

AttaChment.~:

i
I

I
I
I

I
I
I
I

I

I
I
I
I
