1997
8.

10.

The County Road #116 Trail is scheduled to be completed this year with $113,244 in
Federal Transportation dollars and approximately $36,000 set aside from Ramsey in 1994
for a cash match and also a contribution from the City of Anoka. The trail will connect
Anoka Senior High School and the Ramsey Elementary School via some existing segments
in Anoka and Ramsey's urban areas. Much of the planning is completed for the project.
Remaining is engineering/plan preparation, then bids will be let and contractors will
construct the path~ The lighting and landscaping may be scaled back from that originally
proposed.

The $80,000 County Road g83 Trail's primary purpose will be connecting the Ermine,
Lake Itasca, and Autumn Heights Park Districts. The construction will be funded by the
Landfill Trust Fund. The trail, originating at the Lake Itasca trail west of County Road #83
near 167th Lane, will travel the length of #83 within the road right-of-way to 153rd
Avenue. Connection to Central Park is also an impetus for the improvement. County
signed crosswalks should be planned at 161st Avenue and/or 153rd Avenue, or possibly at
167th Lane, depending on which side the trail is on. The 153rd/155th trail, in association
with this project also scheduled for 1997, will result in a looped trail comprising about five
miles.

The 153rd/155th Trail relates to the above project as well as beginning an important
east-west travel route. $99,691 are budgeted from State Aid road construction funds for
this trail. The path will parallel the road in most areas, but also will swing towards the
wetland area accessing picnic sites and opportunities for wildlife viewing. The
approximate 50 acre site (including that required for the road) will connect withe the
wetland parks to the south in the Greenland Hills subdivisions. Residents in the Pineview
Greenland Hills area will then have direct pedestrian access to 153rd crosstown, the Lake
Itasca trail system, Central Park, and other destinations.

River's Bend Shelter and Safety Fences are intended to be accommodated by a
$20,000 Park Trust fund expenditure. (As with any Park Trust fund project, the
expenditure is dependent on available dollars within the district, in this case the Oxbow
park district. If the district does not have enough money, interest earnings from the trust
fund would be appropriate in light of the community-wide use the park receives.)

The safety fences will be six feet high and extend beyond fa:st base to the south of the
softball field. On the third base line, the fence will extend from the backstop approximately
30 feet, due to the occasional use of the left field for soccer play.

The shelter will be sited in proximity to the play equipment, and should have (or capability
for) restrooms.
