The Commission noted there was limited east/west travel in the northern one-third of Rarnsey for non-motorized acti¼ty. The exception would be the proposed Trott Brook multi-purpose trail corridor. This trail, however, may be decades away due to its potential cost and the parcels needed to complete the corridor. A more direct east/west route and one that connects many existing neighborhoods and the other paved bike lanes (shoulders) is Counth, Road #63. The Commission has been informed that Count3, Road #63 is scheduled for an upgade, including adchng paved shoulders within the next ten years for the segment between County Road #83 and C.S.A.H. #5. The purpose for this correspondence to you is threefold: Lend the Park and Recreation Commission's support for paved shoulders along County Road #63, including between C.S.A.H. #5 and State Highway #47. The Commission's concern is in improving pedestrian and bicyclists' safety and providing non-motorized transportation opporturdties to other existing trails and bike lanes. Provide you with the Commission's Draft Park and Trail Plan so that the County may provide comment on: · Bike lanes on count3, roads · Sig-nage for the above and City, trail junctures with Counth' Roads · Other recommendations Receive information from the County on its current views and policies relating to equestrian use of the County right-of-way. Specifically, is there regulation prohibiting horseback riding in the ditch or shoulder.'? Addition~ly, the City has noted there does not exist an advisou, sign(s) calling attention to the 153rd Avenue N.W. crossing at Sunfish Lake Boulevard N.W. The lack of signage brings with it minor complications for giving motorists directions and there may be safeth, implications ass~iated with the nondescript intersection and absence of turn lanes. The Park and Recreation Commission will be conducting a public hem'4ng on the Draft Park and Trail Plan on January 12, 1995, at 6:00 p.m. at Ramsey Municipal Center. All interested persons are invited to attend the hearing and comment on the draft plan. Written comments are welcome and shall be addressed to the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303. Written comments shall be received at the above address prior to 5:00 p.m. on January 12, 1995. City Council is expected to adopt the Commission's plan via a separate public hearing as part of a City-wide Comprehensive Plan earl5, in 1995. I have enclosed mx, business card for your convenience.
