CASE #

PROVIDE COMMENT ON DRAFT TRAIL CORRIDOR NARRATIVE
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Background:

During the last ~everal months of discussions of the park and trail location plan, it has been
recommended that there would be accompanying narrative of the significant components to
describe the intent of what the map presents. This would also be an important element of a
revised Compr~ensive Parks and Open Space Plan. As you will recall, this document was
last updated in ~990 and adopted by City Council in May 1991. Over the course of the last
two years, the Commission has acted upon various issues that will be incorporated into a
revised plan. F.~rmal recommendations, such as park plans and budgets have been agreed
to and implemented. Informally, the Commission has discussed operational and
development p¢licies, as well as reaching consensus on topics such as the trail issue
"paper" which i~ attached.

These items and~ more will be added to the existing plan in an effort to update it on a regular
basis, perhaps every five years. The Comprehensive Parks and Open Space Plan has been
proposed to be ~ore accurately re-titled "Recreation and Natural Resources Plan".

Observations:

The attached ~aft narrative outlines a couple of Ramsey's trail corridors features and
purpose. The piJrpose of this case and attachment is to receive the Commission's input in
crafting a typical outline for each significant trail system and those park areas which are
proposed, but nqt developed or acquired yet. Each trail would have a separate site location
map and probably a photo(s) when complied for the planning document.

At this stage, tl~e Commission may wish to focus on defining what's not included in the
draft text, ratherithan critiquing what is.

Commission Action:

Detail elements that should be described in park and trail descriptions.

Reviewed by: Copies also distributed to:

Parks/Utilities Shpervisor

City Administrator
City Engineer
Intern Beth Malaby

PR: 04/13/9;5

/jmt
