CASE #

STATUS REPORT ON SUNWOOD DRIVE
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Please find attached, a memo from Consulting Engineer Peter Raatikka, regarding the
current statu~ of Sunwood Drive. At this time, the largest obstacle to proceeding with this
project is a~aiting the issuance of a DNR permit for filling portions of Wetland #116P.
Additional igformation was requested by DNR which will be submitted by the end of this
week (week of August 1 st) to assist in the justification of the need for wetland filling. The
time lines for proceeding with the construction of Sunwood Drive is summarized in Mr.
Raatikka's memo.

Also be adv, ised that the final elements requested by the State, in conjunction with the
environmental assessment worksheet, have been completed. A report has been issued by
Christina H ,~'rison, Archaeological Research Services, indicating that the reconnaissance
survey proved negative for archaeological resources. We feel the City may now proceed
with making~,a declaration of a finding of no significant impacts. We propose that the EAW
comments aild consultant responses be reviewed by the Road and Bridge Committee and
that their recommendation be presented to the Council to support a declaration of No
Significant Impact. We anticipate this to be presented before the Council on the next
agenda.

Lastly, the f~al construction plans for the roadway have not been finalized because of the
desire to aw/tit DNR permits. However, the segment of the project from Sunfish Drive to
the entrance with the proposed Chestnut 5th Addition can be finalized to meet the
developer's time frame for the construction of that subdivision.

Council Action:

No action is required.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer
City Adminisn-ator
Finance Officer
City Attorney

CC: 08/09/94

]jmt

7/
