; CASE # 4 <br /> iEDUCATION POLICY/TUITION REIMBURSEMENT <br /> By: Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator <br /> i Kay McAIoney, Administrative Services Manager <br />Backgroun ~d: <br /> <br />Attached is a;copy of the City of Ramsey's Education Policy adopted by City Council on <br />May 14, 199). The current Education Policy states that any full-time City employee <br />attending and; favorably completing (C or better) the continuing education will be eligible <br />for reimbursetnent of the cost of tuition and materials if certain criteria are met. <br /> <br />On November' 7, 1994 the Personnel Committee met to discuss some options allowing for <br />tuition reimbursement. The Personnel Committee thought that such a policy was beneficial <br />and directed !staff to rework the policy and bring a specific policy to the Personnel <br />Committee foi' review. <br /> <br />The following is a chart of the dollars budgeted for training for the .,,'ears 1990 through <br />1994 and the ~a~!alount left over at the end of each yettr: <br /> <br />Year' Budgeted Left Over Total 'Spenf <br />1990" $9,410.00 50.00 $9,410.00 <br />1991 * $21,972.00 $12,660.72 $9,311.28 <br />1992 ? $29,664.00 $9,176.43 $20,487.57 <br />1993 ~ $16,667.00 $4,529.95 $12,137.'05 <br />1994: $23,065.00 $7,002.50' $16,062.50 <br /> <br />* Balance as of December 6, 1994. <br /> <br />Staff recommehds the following policy. Bold and strike-outs are used to detail the current <br />and the propos&d policy. <br /> <br />EDUCATION POLICY/TUITION REIMBURSEMENT <br /> <br />The current edOcation policy/tuition reimbursement for the City of Ramsey set forth in <br />the Ramsey Ci!y Code, and outlined in Resolution -/g)1-05-097, states that any full-time <br />City employe~., that has been with the City for at least one year, attending and <br />favorably ~r', <br /> ~ ,.~ ...... ., completing the continuing education will be eligible for the <br />reimbursement ~f the cost of tuition and materials as follows: <br /> <br />The education must be directly related to the employee's job description. <br /> <br />The educational course must be specifically approved by the appropriate Department <br />Head anq:I by the Gity Council City Administrator or the City Council before <br />the employee commences attendance, and approved course must be taken at an <br />emp oyel' approved facility. Reimbursement cost will be determined using <br />the Sta_te University System for those employees attending a private <br />college2 The City will reimburse for accredited classes at an <br />accredi(ed school. Correspondence courses will not be eligible for <br />reimburs{gment. <br /> <br /> <br />
