Senator Dahl replied that he would be delighted to meet with Mr. Hartley and added that <br />anybody that would propose a landfill site on a sand plain really has not followed the <br />notion of siting landfills on the most environmentally suitable sites. Senator Dahl stated <br />that each County should not be required to come up with suitable sites because some <br />counties cannot meet the suitability requirement. <br /> <br />City Council recessed at 9:08 p.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann called the regular City Council meeting back to order at 9:21 p.m. <br /> <br />CITIZEN INPUT (CONTINUED) <br /> <br />Jay Guimont - 5720 164th Avenue N.W. - Stated he is present representing the Fire <br />Department and requesting equipment and training necessary for the Department to get <br />involved with rescue work, as it goes hand-in-hand with the Fire Department. <br /> <br />The consensus of the City Council was that discussion of acquisition of rescue equipment <br />and training should proceed through the property channels: Fire Board, Budget <br />Committee, City Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember DeLuca requested that City Council be provided with a summary of the <br />Fire Board's discussion of acquisition of rescue equipment and training. <br /> <br />Case #5: Appointment To Landfill Inventory Site Selection Authority: <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley suggested that Ernie Larsen be appointed to the Landfill Inventory Site <br />Selection Authority. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cich and seconded by Councilmember Peterson to appoint <br />Ernie Larsen to the Landfill Inventory Site Selection Authority to represent the City of <br />Ramsey. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers DeLuca, Pearson, Cich <br />and Peterson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #6: Consider Disposition Of Pipeline Used For Methane Recovery: <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley referenced Elwyn Tinklenberg's report regarding the status of the methane <br />recovery project at the landfill. Mr. Hartley stated that the Anoka Landfill Board has been <br />disbanded and a meeting was called to review options for the methane recovery facility. <br />Commissioner Steffen suggested that the County undertake a nationwide search for a <br />business that might be able to use the methane as well as develop in Ramsey. <br /> <br />Kathy Peterson, Assistant Operations Manager at the Anoka Sanitary Landfill, was present <br />and stated that a new gas extraction system may be developed at the site which may render <br />the exiting pipeline useless. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Reimann and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to direct City Staff to <br />encourage Anoka County to perform a search for a business that would be able to make use <br />of the methane gas and to work with Waltek and Waste Management to determine ways to <br />utilize the gas. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
