Mayor. Ramsey stated he would be thrilled if it can happen and thinks there may be profit the
first year. He questioned the proposed location of the porta- potties.
Mr. Bouten explained that some attendees are over 60 years of age so they want the porta- potties
on the first and third levels.
Management Analyst Brama advised that Anoka does not participate in insurance, there is an
Anoka Classic Car Show nonprofit organization and the insurance is paid from the proceeds of
fees charged. He stated that option could also be considered in Ramsey.
Councilmember Backous advocated for that process because otherwise the City would be open
to the potential of high claims. He stated he looks at this as a community event instead of a
moneymaker for Happy Days.
Mr. Bouten stated he had called his insurance agent but the agent could not tell him what it
would cost under short notice; however, he did get another estimate of $1,600 for 14 events.
Councilmember McGlone noted the City typically tries to help when something like this is
proposed. In this case, the Car Show is proposed to start immediately so he supports allowing it
under the City's umbrella to give it a boost and if this event is considered next year, the issue of
insurance can be dealt with.
Councilmember Strommen asked Mr. Bouten if he had explored with the City of Ramsey
Foundation to see if it would be willing to participate since it is a non - profit.
Councilmember McGlone suggested that be considered for next year.
Councilmember Strommen noted the City of Ramsey Foundation is already participating in
events of this type.
Mayor Ramsey stated the City of Ramsey Foundation does not have this type of insurance policy
and asked if the food vendors will be insured.
Mr. Bouten indicated that several of the food vendors at the Anoka Car Show have been asked
and will be expected to show licensure documentation. He advised that Acapulco and Subway
were asked if they would be interested, and seemed to be excited about this opportunity. In
addition, the Boy Scouts were asked to sell pop and water.
Mayor Ramsey stated the City of Ramsey Foundation does The Draw concerts and does not have
insurance for those events.
Management Analyst Brama stated he contacted the City's insurance provider and learned the
City is paying a premium that covers The Draw concert series.
City Council Work Session / July 31, 2012
Page 4 of 18
