Case gl0: Request for Financial Participation in Project DARE <br /> <br />Police Chief Auspos stated that the Anoka Police Chief is requesting that the City of Ramsey <br />participate financially in the funding of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (DARE). <br />The program is offered to all fifth grade students and the intent of the program is to prepare <br />children to resist drugs. The Anoka Police Chief is requesting that Ramsey allocate $11.45 for <br />every Ramsey student in the fifth grade to cover the cost of materials for the program. Chief <br />Auspos recommended approval of the request for funding participation in the DARE Program. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cich and seconded by Councilmember Peterson to direct City Staff to <br />prepare a budget amendment for Council consideration to allocate $11.45 per Ramsey fifth grade <br />student towards the DARE Program. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Councilmember Peterson requested that when the budget amendment is <br />brought to Council for consideration that the City Council also be provided with a sample packet of <br />the material provided to the fifth grade students for which the $11.45 is to be used. <br /> <br />Councilmember DeLuca noted that it has been the City Council's's policy to limit funding <br />programs that are offered outside the City of Ramsey limits but the DARE Program is not only <br />educational but serves to better society. <br /> <br />Councilmember Peterson sated that he would like to see Ramsey's Police Officers receive training <br />to become involved in programs such as this in order to promote interaction with the community. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann requested that the Police Officer responsible for offering the DARE Program also <br />be present to provide the City Council with more information regarding that program. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Cich, Peterson, DeLuca and <br />Pearson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #11: Receive Bids for Blacktopping, Sanitary Sewer and Watermain <br /> Utilities for Dolomite Street N.W. (Improvement Project #89-15) <br /> <br />Mr. Otto stated that the City received two bids for Project #89-15 and the low bidder was Volk <br />Sewer and Water, Inc. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cich and seconded by Councilmember DeLuca to adopt Resolution g90- <br />08-261 accepting bids for Improvement Project #89-15 and awarding a contract to Volk Sewer and <br />Water, Inc. for such improvements. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Cich, DeLuca, Pearson and <br />Peterson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #12: Receive Bids for ParaBody Sanitary Sewer and Watermain <br /> (Improvement Project gO0-30) <br /> <br />Mr. Otto stated that the City received three bids for Improvement Project g90-30 and the low <br />bidder was Inland Utility Construction. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cich and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to adopt Resolution <br />#90-08-262 Accepting Bids for ParaBody sanitary sewer and watermain improvements and <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL/AUGUST 14, 1990 <br /> Page 15 of 20 <br /> <br /> <br />
