Council demographer and City officials. Population increases for the City of Ramse~ are shown
on the chart below.

1960 1970 1980 1989 est 1990 est 2000 est
1,1 79 2,360 10.093 12,717 13,293 14,790

Source of Estimate: Metropolitan Council

LABOR FORCE

A labor survey was sent out in March, 1988 to some 4500 randomly selecled residents of
Ramsey. The survey was administered by the City's Community Developmenl Department.
Survey response was 18% which is relatively good with this type of questionnaire. 792
surveys out of 4500 were returned to City Hall. However, the percentage of surveys completed
in part was higher than anticipated.

The purpose of this survey is to gain updated information and to better understand the labor
environment available to serve the community. The information from the survey will be used
as an indicator to current and future businesses that the human resource potential is available
to conduct business in the City.

The City of Ramsey feels that the labor survey is a valid indicator of income and employment
characteristics of the community because of the relatively high response rate. Also the survey
corresponds to the 1980 U.S. Census data for Ramsey and metropolitan estimates for the area.
This information is visible in the tables on the succeeding pages.

AVAILABLE LABOR FORCE

The location of Ramsey, with Highway #10 running through the southern portion of the
community and the proximity to the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, makes it accessible to
the whole metropolitan area. Therefore, the labor force for Ramsey does include much of the
northern and western Twin Cities Metropolitan area.

The 1980 Census shows the labor force in Ramsey to be 4,755. According to the Minnesota
Department of Jobs & Training, the Minneapolis-St, Paul MSA labor force estimates consisted
of 1,328,280 in April 1988. This is a 23 percent increase from the labor force of 1,040,112
in 1980. The labor force for Anoka County was estimated to be 125,050 in April, 1988 by the
Minnesota Department of Jobs and Training.

Present Work Status: Ramsey
I am working and not available for a different job
I am working and would be available for a different job
I am not working and do not wish to work or cannot work
I am not working and would be available to work
I am attending school but want a local job after graduation
No response to the question

Number Percent
356 43.7
290 36.6
60 7.6
66 8.3
16 2.0
14 1.8

An analysis of the figures in Table 1 indicate that there is a high percentage of employees
currently working in the area that are available for new employment.
