The
1989 Ramsey Business Expansion and Retention Survey.

ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT

Community Analysis
The City of Ramsey is fortunate to be in a quality location for commercial and industrial
development. The initial assets for attracting new businesses to the City would be the amount of
land available combined with expansion possibilities and a prime location. The City has the
three categories considered to be assets for economic development established by the Star City
Commission: An excellent environment for growth, adequate land for new business and
industry, pro-growth attitudes and policies for agriculture by elected officials. However, the
City is in its infancy with potential for development. Therefore, the City needs to increase its
tax base in both the areas of commercial and industrial development. Under-development and
under-utilization are the City's problems at this time. These problems have all been studied
leading to a strategy that has been established in the Five Year Plan to moderate this problem.

ASSETS

TRANSPORTATION

DEVELOPMENT

Proximity to metropolitan area
Railroad availability in industrial
area
Highway #10
Airport (private)
Frontage road along Highway #10

QUALITY OF LIFE

2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Size of City
Size of lots
Large amount of park land
Quality education system
Country atmosphere
Bounded by two scenic and historic
rivers
7. Residents are able to live in a country atmosphere while still being close
to the Twin Cities. Population in the City has grown steadily at an increasing rate in the past
two decades and is estimated to continue this growth pattern.
