CASE # 14

By:

REPORT ON STATUS OF WATER PROBLEM
AT 6840 164TH LANE N,W.
Merle Mevissen, Public Works Superintendent

Background:

The City of Ramsey experienced numerous water and flooding problems in March of 1989 due to
the warm temperatures in January. Water was flowing heavily in January and, as the
temperature dropped, culverts and storm sewers froze solid preventing water flow later on.

I did not have a chance to see the problem at the above address, as I was out sick the day the
notice came in. Larry Koshak checked it and he said the water was flowing through the culvert
when he was there. When I checked it on March 27, 1989 the water had disappeared, as it had
throughout the entire City, because of the frost breaking and enabling the water to soak into the
ground. I don't anticipate any problems here with normal weather, but with a winter such as we
had this year, there may be problems in the future.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator X
City Attorney
City Engineer X
Community Development Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent X
Other
